Muffuletta is a type of Sicilian bread, as well as a sandwich that originated in New Orleans and is made with the same bread.
The bread is a large, round and somewhat flat loaf, about 10 inches across. It has a sturdy texture and is somewhat similar to focaccia.
A typical muffuletta consists of one muffuletta loaf, split horizontally. The loaf is then covered with a marinated olive salad, then layers of Capicola, salami, Mortadella and provolone.
A typical muffuletta is served cold; the following is a Panini variation on the original and, therefore, is served warm.
